The Kettering Police Department is a committed partner with the community. The agency provides fair and equitable law enforcement services. The employees serve with the same character and pride with which the agency was founded and coined “Ohio’s Finest” by John R. Shryock, first Chief of Police.  This valuable partnership between the citizens and police make Kettering a safe community.

KPD offers many community-based programs, such as:

  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Citizen’s Police Academy and Student Police Academy--11 week program geared to inform citizens the daily duties of Kettering Police Officers & Detectives
  • RAD--Rape Aggression Defense for women
  • Safety Village for Kids--offered by the City’s Safety Section involving KPD and KFD with the purpose of teaching safety lessons to young children
  • School Resource Officers--3 officers assigned to the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
  • Facility Tours--community can see the entire police department which includes dispatch, jail, indoor range, and classroom facilities
  • Vacation House Checks--upon a request, officers will check the residence while the owners are on vacation
  • Crime Prevention--includes many services and speaking engagements:
    1. Security Surveys for home and business
    2. Personal Safety
    3. Identity Theft and Scams
    4. Bank Robbery Prevention
    5. Road Rage
    6. Safety for Seniors and People with Disabilities
    7. Danger Stranger
