Five Rivers MetroParks is known for its clean and safe atmosphere.   The MetroParks Ranger Division provides protection and preservation of life and property within MetroParks.   All Rangers are state certified peace officers.   Rangers enforce state laws, local laws and the rules and regulations of Five Rivers MetroParks.   We currently have 34 full time and part time officers.

Community and Crime Prevention Programs:

 

  • D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)-Safety and anti-drug education lessons for elementary age children during the school year.

 

  • Bicycle Safety -Bicycle Safety classes are offered during the school year for elementary age children.   Classes are age specific and curriculum was designed using the Ohio Academic Content Standards.   Emphasis is placed on safety equipment, where and how to properly ride a bicycle, and traffic laws for bicyclists.

 

  • Third Grade Seatbelt Safety -Teach students the proper way to wear a seatbelt and the safest place to sit in a vehicle.   Students are also taught about airbags and school bus safety.

 

  • Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs -Summer program (June-August, every Wednesday beginning at 9:00am) teaches children safety, hazards of using tobacco and alcohol, and how to fish.   Children and their parents also learn wildlife education and to respect the outdoors as well as how harmful litter is to the environment and wildlife.

 

  • Child I.D. -A digital photo is taken of each child and imported onto the Child I.D. form with the child's personal information.   Fingerprints are taken on the back of the form and the form and a DNA kit is given to the parents to complete and keep.

 

 

  • Child Safety Seat Checks -Child Safety Seats are checked for correct usage and installation by a certified technician.   The seats are also checked for damage and safety recalls.   Parents are then taught the correct usage and installation of the child safety seat.

 

  • Bike Right -10 hour bicycle safety course for children ages 10-12 years old in June.    Children will learn bicycle basics, such as how to fit a bike and helmet, minor bike maintenance and traffic laws for bicyclists.

 

  • Bike For The Health Of It -Bike program to encourage people to ride the bike paths in Montgomery County .   Participants will learn bicycle basics, and minor bike maintenance.   Participants can also earn special achievement awards for riding 125 miles and 250 miles.   The program is at 9:00am and begins the first Saturday in May and lasts until the last Saturday in October.   Meeting locations change weekly.

 

  • National Night Out -First Tuesday evening in August, location will vary each year.   Program designed to heighten awareness of crime prevention in communities through interaction with law enforcement officers.   Also, an opportunity to get a closer look at Five Rivers MetroParks and what we have to offer.

 

  • Safety Safari -Program designed to offer people a variety of safety topics while strolling through Cox Arboretum.   Safety topics are portrayed through interactive displays and demonstrations.   Program is last Saturday in September at Cox Arboretum & Gardens.

 

Volunteer Opportunities:

 

  • Riverside /Five Rivers MetroParks Law Enforcement Explorer Post 763

The explorer post offers young adults (ages 14-21) the opportunity to experience the different aspects of law enforcement for career consideration.

 

  • MetroParks Volunteer Patrol (MVP)
    • Bike Patrol
    • Hike Patrol
    • Mounted Patrol

MVP's patrol our parks and bike paths providing information and assistance to trail users.   MVP's also provide assistance to law enforcement.
