The Centerville Police Department is a
nationally accredited police department through CALEA (Commission on Accreditation
for Law Enforcement Agencies). The department is composed of 42 sworn
men and women and 18 civilian support staff.
Officers can be assigned to the
following specialized positions:

Each officer must obtain his/her O.P.O.T.A.
Peace Officer Training. A four or two year degree is required upon application
for employment. Each officer undergoes a thorough background check, psychological
examination, polygraph examination, and physical exam.
The Centerville Police Department has
been involved in community policing for the last three decades. The Crime
Prevention Officer is responsible for coordinating the department’s
numerous community policing programs. The following programs are initiated
to enhance communication between the police department and the community
and to educate the community at large.
